How to Agree on a Movie for Family Movie Night

Family Movie Nights. I love the idea.  But, too many times when we all are free for the night, I make the popcorn, turn the lights down and we snuggle into blankets – only then to NOT be able to agree on a movie. We get stuck on an endless scroll through Netflix, Amazon or Hulu. One time we ended up not watching anything. Sad!

So I came up with a formula that works! For family movie nights at our house, we now have a theme. It helps narrow down the search. Here are some we’ve done, and some we plan to do:

Animated

Musicals (kid fave at my house)

80’s (parent fave)

90’s

Superheroes

Series (Harry Potter, Star Wars)

Love Stories (this works because we have girls)

SciFi/Fantasy

Mystery

Spy (James Bond!)

You get the idea. And you know your family and what y’all love. But, it makes sense to start at a genre. Then, let the debate begin. You can even take the theme nights a step further with genre-related snacks and clothes. Enjoy!
