Go On a Field Trip–Without Leaving Home

We’ve been practicing social distancing in order to protect ourselves and our families and to help stop the spread of COVID-19. However, we’ve all had our moments of stir craziness. 

Need to get out of the house without getting out of the house? Check out these 12 virtual field trips you can go on today!

Louisiana Old State Capitol. You can take a tour of this National Historic Landmark through your computer or smartphone. Click on points of interest for an up close look at artifacts and the story behind them.

USS KIDD. The USS KIDD website offers both a guided photographic tour and the new 3D exploration of the ship. If you’re a history buff or World War II enthusiast, you’ll really enjoy exploring on this tour. 

Louisiana Art & Science Museum. LASM is bringing art and science right into your home. You can visit them online now to take a 360 degree virtual tour of Space Shuttle Discovery

The Historic New Orleans Collection. Visit them online to check out their available virtual exhibitions. You can even dive further into their History from Home program, including stories, videos, podcasts, and activities for families.

Cajun Encounters Swamp Tour. It wouldn’t be a Louisiana field trip without a swamp tour. Luckily, we can still check out the gators through this virtual swamp tour.

National Parks. With the help of Google Earth, you can explore the National Parks. From Yosemite and Yellowstone to the Grand Canyon and Joshua Tree, you can explore all of these parks and more without leaving your seat.

The British Museum in London. Through Google’s Arts & Culture, you can explore The British Museum to see world-famous objects, including the Rosetta Stone, the Parthenon sculptures, and Egyptian mummies.

National Gallery of Art in Washington. The nation's museum features two separate online exhibits. The first, Fashioning a Nation, provides a brief survey of American fashions from 1740-1895. The second, Vermeer and the Masters of Genre Painting, includes paintings of refined Dutch society.

Musée d’Orsay in Paris. Take a virtual tour of the museum to see Vincent van Gogh’s self portrait and even works from French artists who worked and lived between 1848 and 1914.

The Great Wall of China. As China's most famous attraction, the Great Wall of China is an essential stop. Take a virtual tour of the Great Wall, commonly considered a wonder of the world.

Farm & Food Tours. Want to check out dairy cow farms, egg processing facilities, or an apple orchard? You can! You can see Canadian Food and Farming in 360 degrees. All you will need is your smartphone.
