StoryTime in the Garden

Do you wonder what you can do on Saturdays with your young children? For most of us parents, we look for activities that are fun and free. Try StoryTime in the Garden for a lovely outing.

I can give you a few reasons why you should spend a Saturday morning with your littles at StoryTime in the Garden. First of all, you can enjoy the beautiful grounds at LSU AgCenter Burden Gardens. Second, you can sit with your precious one on your lap as Dr. Becky White, Emeritus and Adjunct Professor of Child Development from the LSU AgCenter, reads an entertaining story. Third, your bouncing boy or girl can create an adorable craft or two that relates to the theme of the day. This creative mix of storytelling and imaginative, hands-on craft activities for children will quickly become a family favorite. In addition, you can make these beautiful memories one Saturday a month.

My son giggled and danced during StoryTime because one of the books was about dancing all around the country. He was enraptured listening to Dr. Becky White, glued to the pages and her melodic voice. He also loved coloring and designing a tennis shoe that encouraged running and fitness. It was such a pleasant way to spend some time together in a relaxed yet structured setting. There’s just something sweet about cuddling with my buddy while we listen to stories together. We will definitely be returning with his older brother.

StoryTime in the Garden promotes early childhood literacy in the greater Baton Rouge community while also educating children and families about the importance of healthy eating and active lifestyles through storytelling, crafts, and activities. The Junior League of Baton Rouge, in partnership with the LSU AgCenter, collaborates to offer Storytime in the Garden. The President-Elect of Junior League, Zelma Frederick, says that this activity is her family’s favorite thing to do on a Saturday.

Parents with children ages 3 – 8 are invited to join in the fun from 9 to noon. Registration is not required and the event is free of charge. All activities take place in the Pavilion at the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens.
