Swimming into Summertime

Learning to swim is a valuable part of any child’s life, and it’s also a fun form of exercise, especially in the summer. However, this is not an activity most parent’s feel qualified to teach their children, especially infants and young ones because of the training and safety precautions required. At the Crawfish Swim School (a sister company of Crawfish Aquatics), swimmers of all ages and skill levels can learn this fun (and potentially life saving) skill.

Crawfish Swim School has two locations, one on Siegen Lane and a new location opening on June 18 in Prairieville. Parents can register for a class option that fits their child's age group and skill level: Water Tykes for 5-28 months (with an adult assisting), a special Group Class specifically for two year olds, Group Classes for ages 3-10 years divided by skill level, and Rising Stars for 4-10 year olds who are ready to practice swim team skills in a non-competitive environment. Each instructor is CPR-certified and will track your child’s skill development to monitor her progress each class.

If your kiddos falls in love with swimming, Crawfish Swim School is not all Crawfish Aquatics has to offer for them. The Crawfish Aquatics Swim Team is led by a staff of professional coaches, and they have a team for every skill level. The program values themselves in developing athletes at every level of ability, not just elite athletes. Young ones are sure to grow through either of these programs, not just as athletes but also as young people.

Crawfish Aquatics also offers CPR classes for parents. The classes are offered in partnership with Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, and are “non-certificate granting,” but they do teach parents how to deal with a child who is choking or in a cardiac emergency. A $10 donation is made to Crawfish Agape International, which provides materials for water safety presentations in local schools or offices, as well as outreach swimming lessons.

To register your child for Crawfish Swim School or Crawfish Aquatics, online registration is available at crawfishaquatics.com. The new Crawfish Swim School in Prairieville is located at Bayou Oaks 73 along with a new location of Smile Stars Pediatric Dentistry, a PJ's Coffee House, and Mudbug Academy Preschool. Stop by and check out the new location at the Opening Celebration on June 30 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. For more information, visit bayouoaks73.com.
