A lot has changed since Lake After Hours opened its first Baton Rouge clinic on Perkins Road in 1999. It was one of the first urgent care clinics in the area and among the first in the country to be affiliated with a respected health system like Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.

Founder and Chief Medical Officer Kevin DiBenedetto, M.D. remembers it well. At the time, Dr. DiBenedetto says, “Too many people who didn’t need emergency medical care were coming to Our Lady of the Lake’s ER. So, the Lake approached me with the idea to open an urgent care clinic.” Dr. DiBenedetto and his founding partner Dr. Graham Tujague worked in the Lake’s emergency room. According to Dr. DiBenedetto, “The goal was simple. These clinics offer the same quality of care a patient would get in the emergency room but in a much faster, less expensive urgent care setting.”

Coordinated care eliminates the cost and inconvenience associated with the duplication of services like X-Rays. Patients also tend to be happier with the results of their treatment when it’s delivered using a coordinated care approach.

Dr. DiBenedetto adds, “I believe quality outcomes are as important for urgent care patients as in any other setting. Lake After Hours was also the first to open an urgent care clinic dedicated to treating children. It’s called Lake After Hours Kids. “Now all our Lake affiliated clinics treat patients as young as three months old. Not all urgent care clinics do that,” according to Dr. DiBenedetto.
